Meet Ruth Moyler and her extended family who all live in and around London, UK.. Although Interplaylands was officially registered in 2011 it’s beginnings occured much earlier.
Interplaylands is a creative, trauma-informed, play-based approach to helping children learn, heal and thrive. Developed by experienced educator Ruth Moyler, Interplaylands supports literacy, emotional wellbeing and inclusive storytelling through joyful play.
Ruth Moyler is an innovative Early Years educator with over 25 years of classroom experience.
Her unique ability to combine creative arts, literacy development and emotional support can transform the way children engage with learning.
Ruth continues to run courses as part of the Linden Learning Early Years consortium, also working directly with schools as a ‘Courageous Creativity’ Consultant.
Since 2024, Ruth has been offering 1:1 therapeutic play sessions for neurodiverse children through the mutual making of bespoke Interplaylands.
“Interplaylands are four-scene storytelling worlds made from wood board. Children build these spaces with adult guidance, using scrap materials and imagination. With their own ‘Mini-Me’ figures, children explore real-life and fantasy situations — learning to read, process trauma, and express emotions along the way.”

Since 2020, Ruth has continued to develop Interplaylands as a positive, playful resource for children and families to develop oracy through storytelling, with mini versions making them more affordable for classroom use. Over recent years, Interplaylands has evolved into a culturally transferable and powerful therapeutic resource, with two classroom-size units currently in use in Kampala, Uganda. Now semi-retired, Ruth continues her groundbreaking work beyond the UK curriculum, training teachers in partnership with CRANE, Viva, and other global organizations, demonstrating that ‘courageous creativity’ transcends cultural boundaries. Her ‘Fabulous Phonics’ curriculum, which includes books, music, and songs, is about to be introduced in Uganda with potential for global reach in English language teaching.

In 2007 Ruth’s then 17 year old daughter Beth, created a piece called ‘the imagination station’ for her final piece at Brit school. In 2008 Ruth was gifted it by her daughter and took it into the classroom.
After a redesign specifically for early years, along with the development of a complimentary phonics resource, Ruth became a Senior Leader of Education (SLE) in 2012 and began sharing what was happening through this resource with other London schools and the Fabulous phonics/ Interplayland good practise spread.
